On November 23, 2010 my
wooling portrait of His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales was gifted
to The Prince by the Chairman of the British Wool Marketing Board (BWMB)
on behalf of the British wool farmers.
The
wooling presentation to the Prince took place in Bradford, England which
is the heart of wool production in the country. By all accounts the
Prince was delighted with his portrait and one report says that he was
amazed and even a little stunned at first. I was very happy to be a
part of this worthy cause to help the wool industry and there's even
been some talk about the need for one of my woolings to gift Prince
William and Kate when they marry in April of 2011. The Prince is
currently involved in a five year wool awareness initiative to help
promote wool as a natural renewable resource. Synthetics have eroded
wool's market share in the last decade and the Wool Board and the Prince
are working to reverse that trend.
The
wool awareness initiative is set to go world wide in 2011 including
America. My "wooling" was very appropriate for the occasion since I
made it with some of the last cones of wool I had left from the British
wool company "Forsell." Unfortunately Forsell, after 160 years and six
generations, went out of business in 2001, much to my dismay! They had
been one of the world's finest suppliers of the high grade wool that I
require for my art. I'm limited to available colours, and they had a
wide pallet of colors and tones and their yarn was very consistent in
dye lot and thickness. At the present time I'm finding it difficult to
locate another wool company with the colour range I require and It may
be necessary for me to start custom dyeing in the future. The
presentation was reported in the British media, including the
"Mission"
public relations firm and the
Yorkshire Post.
A Royal Wooling for Prince Charles
Here I am with my "Royal" wooling of Prince Charles before I shipped it
to England for the presentation.
Art exhibition in Florence, Or.
During the entire month of
September (2010) I had the pleasure of exhibiting my art at the
Silver Lining Boutique Gallery in Florence, Oregon. The gallery
also displayed a number of my husband's photographs as well as my
woolings and graphite works.
The gallery
owner, Kimberly Fleenor, gave a reception where I met many new people.
One of them was Bernie, from the Siuslaw News, who wrote about the event
in the newspaper. Among the woolings I displayed were my new western
collection including Geronimo, Custer, Sitting Bull, Chief Joseph
and Captain Jack.
Video Interview
2010 Oregon State Fair
I entered my full size " Chief Joseph" in the 2010 Oregon State Fair.
I got quite a bit of attention and while I was filling out the entry
papers I was interviewed by a video arts reporter, Barbara Curtin, from
the Statesman Journal newspaper.
